Does Your Business Need an E-I-N Number?

Do you have employees? Does your business operate as a corporation or a partnership? If so, you probably need an Employee Identification Number (EIN).

An EIN is like a social security number for you business. You can’t open a bank account, file business taxes or apply for certain grants in your company’s name without those nine numbers. It helps the banks, governments and businesses identify your company. It also creates separation between your personal and business assets.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issues EINs. You can apply for one online at http://tinyurl.com/2jragn

According the IRS, you will need an EIN if you answer YES to following questions:

Do you file any of these tax returns: Employment, Excise, or Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms?

Do you withhold taxes on income, other than wages, paid to a non-resident alien?

Are you involved with any of the following types of organizations?
-Trusts
-Estates
-Real estate mortgage investment conduits
-Non-profit organizations
-Farmers' cooperatives
-Plan administrators
